The ICEBERG LAKE TRAIL is a popular destination in the Many Glacier area of the park.  The trail begins steeply, then ascends gently past Ptarmigan Falls (very cold, it's a great place to cool your tired feet on the return), and reaches the lake after 7 miles.

The lake is one of those beautiful turquoise lakes so familiar in the park.  From the vantage point at the end of the trail, you'd think it's mostly open water.  From a higher view, you would see it's mostly ice, hence the name.  It's surrounded on many sides by high mountain walls, a setting known as a cirque.

Watch for beargrass along the trail.  Actually a member of the lily family, beargrass can be a spectacular sight, though some years are better than others.  Speaking of bears, the Iceberg Lake trail is frequently visited by grizzly bears.
