The HUCKLEBERRY LOOKOUT TRAIL climbs through forest for several miles before breaking out on the top of Huckleberry Mountain, home of the Huckleberry Fire Lookout. Important in spotting fires before they become a danger to park visitors and resources, many of the lookouts are still in use, manned by persons who don't mind solitude. The view is amazing and well worth the hike. I took this hike years ago with a park naturalist leading the way. I didn't realize it is rated moderately strenuous - the naturalist knew all the right places to slow us down to catch our breath. Again, this hike is smack in the middle of grizzly country. Make lots of noise and watch for signs of bears. Please don't hike alone on this or any of the park's trails.
