| Home | Lakes: Deep, Clear, and COLD The lakes in Glacier National Park were created long ago by the glaciers that carved the mountains. Many of the lakes are a beautiful turquoise color due to the finely ground rock which the glaciers carried with them. The two largest, St. Mary and McDonald stretch for miles! Fortunately, you can see both from your car, along Going to the Sun Road. But don't stay in the car! You'll be happy to know the Road has many pullouts from which to get a better view of the lakes. These are some of the park's most visited lakes, but they're not the only ones:
